KNH murder suspect Kennedy Kalombotole to undergo fresh mental assessment
Kalombotole is accused of committing two separate murders within the KNH wards, incidents that sparked outrage and concern among hospital staff, patients, and the public.
The High Court in Nairobi has directed that Kennedy Kalombotole, the man accused of killing two people inside Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), undergo a new medical evaluation to determine his fitness to stand trial.
Justice Diana Kavenza issued the order after receiving a report from Dr Owiti, who examined Kalombotole and concluded that he suffers from epilepsy and is currently unfit to participate in court proceedings.

According to the report, the accused's medical condition affects his mental stability and ability to follow trial proceedings, prompting the court to seek a second opinion from KNH doctors.
"We are awaiting a report from Kenyatta National Hospital to ascertain whether the accused is fit," Justice Kavenza stated.
She added that if the hospital's assessment contradicts Dr Owiti's findings, the accused will be referred to Mathare National Teaching and Referral Hospital for a comprehensive examination by four independent medical experts.
The judge emphasised that the murder trial would only proceed once the court is satisfied that Kalombotole is mentally and physically capable of facing the charges.
The case is scheduled for mention on December 17, when the KNH report is expected to be presented.
